Fans, friends and visitors of Sunset Beach….
….you’re in for a real treat this coming June! If you’re not familiar with the group Sunset Vision, here’s a little background for you:
Sunset Vision is a group of diverse, caring citizens who are working to enhance the Sunset Beach experience for residents and visitors alike. Our mission is to enrich the community by funding and maintaining amenities and features that promote nature, education, enjoyment, business, accessibility, and volunteerism in order to make the Sunset Beach experience more interactive and more rewarding.
Here are just a few of their initiatives from the past:
Their next BIG initiative is coming up in June. The very first ever “Sunset Beach Nature & Wildlife Show” will be taking place June 22 through June 24, 2017. As part of its fundraising efforts to procure a commercial-grade bird and wildlife viewing binocular, Sunset Vision is calling on artists to showcase the beauty of Sunset Beach in the first nature art show and sale to inspire appreciation and protection of our natural environment and its inhabitants. The art will showcase the beauty of Sunset Beach’s wildlife and natural surroundings and the diverse creative talents of local and regional artists. Using Sunset’s birds, wildlife, waters, vegetation, and other natural environments as inspiration, artists will create original work for submission for the show and sale. The work will hang for 3 days in the DeSoto Classic Car Showroom with a reception on Friday, June 23, 2017. Art can be viewed on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, during the opening reception on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
An important part of the exhibition will be to serve as a public relations and fundraising vehicle for Sunset Vision’s community gift of a commercial-grade binocular for bird and wildlife viewing, which will be installed at the Bird Walk at Twin Lakes on Shoreline Drive W. One hundred percent of the revenues resulting from the sale of artwork in the show will be applied to the procurement of the binocular. “The binocular, which will be free to use, and accessible for children and those will disabilities, has a dual head (two viewing ports), high-powered optic to allow birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts to see birds and wildlife 20 times closer, with a broad, panoramic view,” explains Melissa Warren, Sunset Vision board member. “It’s our goal to enhance the Sunset Beach experience for residents and visitors alike, and inspire people of all ages to appreciate and protect our natural environment and its inhabitants.” The purpose of the show and sale is three-fold: first, to promote the conservation and appreciation of Sunset Beach’s wildlife and environment through fundraising. second, to showcase the extraordinary talents of local and regional artists, and third, to expose the nature art genre to new audiences.
