2014 Ice Storm

In anticipation of the winter storm that is expected to infiltrate the entire Carolina coast today and tomorrow, I thought I’d look back to what was the last significant winter weather event here on the shore and that was the crippling ice storm of February, 2014. At that time, life in most of the coastal areas came to a grinding halt for up to 4 days in some places. We had little to no snow but plenty of rain and freezing temperatures that wreaked havoc on all the roads and bridges. Many roads were simply impassable due to the heavy buildup of ice across the entire roadway. There were fools, however, who braved the elements to capture the upside of the storm….the ice palace it created on the shore. Here are some of the photos from one such lunatic.

Hopefully, this will get you in the mood for today’s storm! Hunker down!
