While in Southport recently, the timing was right to get a second look at the 1st of 2 January supermoons for 2018. By the time I made it out to the pergola on the marshwalk adjacent to the marina, the town had pretty much gone into sleep mode with hardly a vehicle or person, save myself, on the road. With little wind, the water was calm and the silence through the marsh was deafening. One sailboat made her way slowly & quietly, nearly ripple free, into the marina with the sun setting behind her and the Oak Island Lighthouse flashing her beacon to light the way home.
I stayed long enough to capture some sunset photos against a pastel sky and then made my way over to Kingsley Park for a couple moonrise photos where night 2 of supermoon did not disappoint. I packed up my gear and headed home eagerly anticipating January’s #2 supermoon, her ‘blue moon,’ later this month. Here are some photos from the evening. Hope you enjoy.
