Exploring Shem Creek

We had family visiting us last week and one spot we knew we had to take them to was the Charleston area. Our plan was to spend a couple of days with the first day in the Mt Pleasant area and the other in Charleston itself. We first toured the military displays at Patriots Point (photos to follow in a subsequent post) and then took the lovely boat ride out to Ft Sumter to immerse ourselves in history!

Since we were staying in Mt Pleasant, we decided to try out one of the many restaurants that lined Shem Creek, just a short drive from Patriots Point. We had previously only driven past Shem Creek and knew that we needed to get down to ground level. We’re so very happy that we did! Aside from having a great dining experience at Red’s Ice House, we came to discover a gorgeous marsh walk along the west side of Shem Creek that wandered through the marsh, along the creek and out to the mouth of the creek. Much to my surprise, Mt Pleasant is home to a significant fleet of shrimpers and other fishing boats.

You’ll find a number of photos just below from our evening at Shem Creek along with a map of how to find it. Any of the photos shown below are available to purchase in various sizes as well as digital downloads by viewing the gallery here.
